Personal: Hey, so, I’ve written a book…

by Dan on February 21, 2012

As many people know, I was in the games media for a good 15 or 16 years before coming to Activision; I wrote for OXM, GamePro, GamesRadar, Wired, and a bunch of other places. The top question I received from readers over that time was “How do I get your job?”

Over the last eight years, I’ve been chipping away at a book that answers that question as completely as I can manage, and today, it’s finally available. It’s called Critical Path: How to Review Videogames for a Living, and it’s out today for Kindle, Nook, and paperback, with an iBook edition coming as soon as Apple gives it their blessing.

I am honored that Cliff Bleszinski wrote the foreword, and flattered that I got the chance to announce the project officially through Vox Games on their launch day.

If you’re interested in the book, go to http://criticalpathbook.com for a blog, a sample chapter, some advance buzz, and info on how to order.  Thanks!

Congrats on finishing the book! Eight years is a long time.

I kept getting distracted by good games. That was definitely part of it. It’s more fun to play them to write about them, after all.

If a surgeon wrote a book about surgery you should read it.
If a Mathematician wrote a book about trigonometry you should read it.

So that means if Dan fucking Amrich writes a book about videogames, you had better devour it. I am buying this book so hard that every other book in the universe will feel jealous and unloved.

This is one of the best endorsements I could have hoped for. :)

I looked into Kobo, and they do not currently enable authors to self-publish. Until their self-pub system is online, I can’t put the book in their library. But when it is availabe, believe me, I will!
