One of Swords Podcast 107: Hugging Paper

by Dan on February 7, 2012

So much news, so many listener letters, so many distractions — how we got this week’s show done in an hour, I’ll never know. But we packed that hour full to bursting with talk of the new Skylanders game, naive morons, the next MW3 Elite content drop, sword fighters, pwning n00bs, the disappearance of Drop Zone, time management, Dan’s first girlfriend, extra Transformers, earnings calls, double XP in Black Ops, and something called the “Qii.” Plus, I think I used a Yameen track from 1999 that I’ve never used in the show before, so that’s cool.

The Smashing Pumpkins remix at the end dropped a nostalgia bomb on my head. It rendered me catatonic for a while. Ah the memories of swinging in my hammock, love struck and only 13.

    Dan,
I am a little surprised at your surprise to the fan reactions to a change in the COD match type lineup.  With such a huge and rabid install base it seems like this would be a “typical” reaction to changes in any large AAA multiplayer game.

I am not saying it is right and good that people behave that way, only that it seems typical of the very vocal 0.0005% who do not understand how to communicate dissatisfaction beyond standing on the sofa and screaming “I WANT CHOCOLATE MILK!!!!”

In these cases sometime ignoring the screamer is the best way to quell the behavior.  If they scream and no one listens or reacts, then who are they screaming at?

I think I finally figure it out.  I was wondering why Hugh was riding Dan so much during the show and now I know why.  I also know why it sucks to be Hugh.  Hugh wants to be Dan!  it makes perfect sense.  Why does Hugh always say “Goodbye there” at the end of the show?  Because it brings him one step closer to being Dan.  I have a solution for this:  Dan should “call out sick” for one podcast and let Hugh host the show.  It can the be the Hugh of swords or the Hugh Sword podcast, Hugh can have his wish of being Dan.

    Love the show as always!

If I call in sick, there is no show. Hugh can’t edit audio. Kat probably can but is a few years out of date.
