One of Swords Podcast 105: Bizarre Effervescence

by Dan on January 25, 2012

Time to catch up with our old pal Bernard Abellada — @ATVIBernard to his Twitter fans — to talk about 2011′s best games and what’s going on at Activision Customer Support. Aside from that, Kat and Hugh kick around costume dramas, MW3 DLC, bad habits, Ferris Bueller, dogs with Alzheimer’s, the Fastball Special, a Mactastrophe, the creation of the word “fontastic,” and one of the most unintentionally difficult Stick It to the Dan questions we’ve ever fielded. Also, it should be noted that Hugh chooses the ultimate incarnation of mankind in this show, but One of Swords does not condone smoking dope or playing bongos.

Looking at examples of Helvetica and Arial, I can’t figure out why so much time was spent on it.  I was hoping for something interesting, like Plaza Standard, after all the hype.  Bummer.

    Defending my honor.
I wrote “the question” and actually had some other songs in there but here was my train of thought:
    1. Dan = VH superfan, Hugh = super movie guy
    2. After I hit submit I “hoped” that Kat would say that they were all in the game because I thought that might be the stumbling point.
    3. I had the solving approach that “ok, I have heard this song in movie X…eliminated., etc etc…)
    4. I was hanging on Hugh’s Howard Stern superfan status for getting us to the answer.

I am shamed and embarrassed for creating such an unintentionally difficult question. I think the problem was I had 4 songs/movies off the top of my head that I wanted to use, but I was distracted by Howard Stern’s Private Parts. Perhaps if I submitted the question in Helvetica it would have been better…

I’m not giving up on these questions…I will try again

LOL…your prize is in the mail, and I do believe you will be quite happy.  :)  It was clear a lot of effort went into it, so I wasn’t going to hold that against you. Thank you for writing in.

Watch the movie. You will have more of a respect for it. Or I will sic Kat on you to explain it.
