One of Swords Podcast 033: Big Web Pants

by Dan on September 9, 2010

Love is in the air…or is it just fumes? On this, the 15th anniversary of the PlayStation, I’m happy to welcome Dee Brown, the studio head of Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions developer Beenox, to find out how the studio came to be, how anybody from Canada can intend to conquer the world, and how to pronounce “Quebec” once and for all. Then it’s back to the mushy stuff with Kat as we recount our madcap adventures at the Black Ops multiplayer reveal event, the PAX Prime weekend in Seattle, what the hell happened to the website on Wednesday the 1st, free demos, big DLC, and one really good reason why Martin Hollis has no reason to lash out at anybody.

Devon says hi at 23:54. That just totally made my day.

Dan, I’m totally with you on taking forever to decide and research things you buy.

More recently, it took me about a month to decide on a computer case for my current build, and it took me a month to decide on a pair of Vans shoes.

Why do you think you take that long? For me it’s a combination of making sure I find not only the best deal, but a product that I won’t regret buying several months down the road.

It drives my wife nuts, she doesn’t understand that if a product doesn’t make me completely happy it will drive me nuts until craigslist helps me get rid of it.

btw… you’re podcast title should have come form the description of how you type “Fast, Hard, Loud”

it could have also been “Canadian or Not, Here We Come”

Beenox sounds like an AMAZING place to work and/or hang out. I’m not a huge Spider Man fan and I wasn’t planning on buying Shattered Dimensions at the full price, but I think I will now just to support that awesome company.

Great show. Gotta laugh, my anniversary is similar. Mine is 11/11, just as easy to remember as 9/9. Hope you guys have an awesome trip. God bless and Happy Anniversary!

BTW Dan, the nickname for the SR71 Blackbird is the Blackhawk. I’ve seen the plane itself at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center (the Smithsonian Institution Air & Space Museum annex in Chantilly, Virginia), and it’s a gorgeous plane. Now I am REAL excited for Black Ops. (NOT excited enough to buy a super duper special edition, however)

Dan, I know you like your ISP but maybe you should switching to Squarespace.com for your hosting. It has dynamic scaling spread over several servers so that if your site has a huge upswing in visitors it can handle it no problem. They also actively monitor security for your website. It’s the host that all the tech journalist are recommending and using themselves these days. Not trying to sound like a commercial, just passing along info about something that sound like exactly what you need.

Have you tried SquareSpace dan? They aren’t supposed to be able to be brought down due to “/.ing” digging or maybe life bloging :) I’m not sure what level of hosting that requires (I have the idea it’s any of their hosting)
