One of Swords Podcast 028: Vengeance is Hard

by Dan on August 4, 2010

We cornered Beenox’s Thomas Wilson at the San Diego Comic-con and got him to explain not only what’s new with Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, but also what the hell he was doing in my E3 video. Then it’s on to Soundgarden’s bold move, Kmart’s bolder moves, DJ Hero’s outrageous price drops, Spider-Man’s mechanics, MW2′s unusual demo, Guitar Hero’s DLC, Dan’s overloaded friends list, Sierra’s classic library, and Kat’s favorite…scanner? Plus, Kat uses the term “crotchburner” and it’s actually in context!

Oh Dan. You know darn stinking well that Queensryche is the best Seattle band there is. :P

Another great podcast. What model of Fujitsu scanner did you get? I have 15 years of Mend Health magazine and am thinking of doing the same thing. Also how about a Game Room game night for the group?

Soundgarden went south after Louder than Love. And the best band from Seattle is def. Sir-Mix-A-Lot. C'mon, everyone loves a baby with back.

The winning line from this podcast is, “You get every dollars worth out their overpriced, closed architecture.” Made me laugh out loud. Too bad I was wearing headphones so the old people at the park moved away from the crazy person.

listening to this week's episode, I get the feeling Dan has some horder tendencies. 20yrs of Magazines, my god.

It was a cheap shot but it was delivered with love — I use and enjoy my Mac every day. But when Kat and I met, I was pure PC and she was pure Mac — it was the SuperDrive that saved our relationship. I made her Mac Classic crash so many times in college that I can't help but shoot out a joke at its expense.

Of course the irony is that we recorded that podcast using Soundtrack Pro on…a Mac. All the One of Swords videos? Final Cut Pro. And on the personal side, I do all my musical stuff on a 13″ MacBook Pro. So I actually harbor zero ill will — I just like to tease her about it.

I'll defend this one as not hoarding — that's having it just to have it. With the guitar mags, I use them as a reference library. In addition to referring to old interviews for books I've contributed to, sometimes I will hear a song, go “I'd like to learn to play that,” then I check my spreadsheet, look for which magazine transcribed that and when, then I'd go to the shelf and pull that issue. Definitely a living archive, not just a trophy wall.

Here is the scanner Kat got (there is a PC version as well).

And as for a Game Room night, it's just leaderboard stuff, isn't it?

haha, you screaming 'NOOOOOOOOOOO” towards the end had me lol'ing in my semi-quiet office setting.

Dude, I almost blew coffee all over my windshield, when you were talking about your guitar mags being thrown out, that was funny stuff! Really good show, you have me curious though—–what books did you contribute to? Sounds like they would be interesting to read. Keep up the great work, and get Beenox to port Shattered Dimensions over to PC!!!!!! NOW!!!!! Please? :O)

Just checking this out now; thanks for giving Kmart extra props in your show. Can always hook you up with an interview, if you'd like! We've been doing a lot lately with the our blog (http://kmartgamer.com) and Twitter (http://twitter.com/kmartgamer).

Hi Dan, great podcast! Is there any way I can convince you to post which specific Yameen songs you played on the podcast? I really loved the song at the end of this one, but I can’t find it on iTunes with the crappy 30 second sample. Thanks for the podcast and keeping me sane at work!
