Monday was a good day. That was the day I hit 5000 followers on Twitter — for which I am very grateful, and I want to do a giveaway to thank everybody for their support. Monday was also the day that news came out about a new Van Halen album and tour, both due in 2011. Some reliable outlets say this is not confirmed, but for my purposes, I’ll take it. I am a huge Van Halen fan, and I have been sitting on a very, very special prize to give away. When these two events happened at the same time…well, could this be magic?
I have a PlayStation 3 copy of Guitar Hero: Van Halen signed by everybody who bears the name — Alex, Eddie, and Wolfgang have all signed the front cover. And it’s yours for the winning.

For three runners-up, I have unsigned PS3 copies of GH: Van Halen, as well as Guitar Hero embroidered hats and a Guitar Hero rechargable battery kit, with an extra battery. These are nifty little USB chargers that plug right into a spare USB port, so you can always have a battery charging while the other one’s in use. Better than killing Mother Nature with endless AAs.

UPDATE 7/13: I’m happy to announce the winners, chosen courtesy of Random.org. The grand prize winner is Ben James from Penn Valley, CA; the runners-up are Brandon DuBose from Ocoee, FL; Kris Tress of Aberdeen, MD; and perhaps appropriately, Adam Suter from Van Halen’s hometown, Pasadena, CA.
They got the answer right, along with hundreds of other entrants: Gene Simmons, the narrator for Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, put up the money for Van Halen’s first demo, booked their studio time, and basically took them under his leathery wing to try to get them signed. It didn’t work out and they parted ways in a friendly way, but, you know, both parties did okay in the end.
