This is the Singularity that gets you Prototype

by Dan on July 14, 2010

I’ve received a common question lately: “I know I get Prototype free if I buy Singularity on Xbox 360 — but only for a while. How will I know if my copy of Singularity gets me Prototype too?”

Good question. Here is the answer:

That red sticker on the package means either the redemption voucher is inside that package…or the sticker IS the voucher. If you don’t see that sticker, you won’t be able to send away for a free copy of Prototype. (And again, this is a 360-only promotion, for reasons I’ve been unable to determine.) What’s more, as several people added to the comments below, the sticker itself often contains the key information you need, so do not throw the cellophane packaging away — you will need it.

This is a “while supplies last” “limited-time offer,” so if you are motivated by this promotion, don’t wait. Not sure how long those specially-marked packages will be in stock. But now you know what to look for.

    really interesting… it's a worldwide promotion?

i'd like to add something about this:

i recently picked up singularity from my local gamestop. the outer, shrink wrapped packaging has said “red sticker.” however, and i don't know if this was just my package, there was NO REDEMPTION VOUCHER inside.

but this didn't stop me. i went to the site the sticker tells you to visit (hint: it's on the back of the sticker), and right then and there, you get to fill out shipping info and payment method (for shipping of prototype). once you continue from there, you get an e-mail with your status number (for your copy of prototype). here's where it got fun:

the e-mail i receieved tells me three things i need to mail in to “verify my submission and receive my game”:
    1) this PRINTABLE CONFIRMATION FORM which contains your confirmation number.
    2) the ORIGINAL RECEIPT showing store name and qualifying purchase of singularity dated prior to august 31, 2010.
    3) the ORIGINAL SINGULARITY/[PROTOTYPE] OFFER STICKER OR POSTCARD from the singularity packaging.

alas, i had thrown away the elusive red sticker, and as mentioned, did not receive a voucher/postcard within the case or instruction manual. i have to call their hotline to see what will happen now, if i can cancel my order or if something can be worked out.

SO! let my mistake be a lesson to anyone! don't throw away that red sticker, just in case you didn't get a voucher or postcard to redeem!!!

I received mine from Amazon today (I had ordered it a couple of days before the KMart sale – but did pick up Alan Wake at KMart). It does have the sticker on the outside of the box, but no voucher on the inside. I also looked at the BACK of the sticker, and followed the instructions there. I'll be sending it out tomorrow when I can get Certified Mail for it. I don't like to take chances with this kind of stuff. :-)

I will amend the article to reflect both of your experiences. Thanks.

    Nope, US only.

did the back of the sticker have extra info about what you would need? i don't recall seeing any of that kind of stuff on the website either. i'm not mad or anything, entirely my fault… just curious if i actually missed something during the “sign up to get free game” process. :-

It just had the URL to go to to fill out the “rebate” form online. The site it sent to you (https://prototypeoffer.singularity-thegame.com/) gives you all the information you need to send to them. You fill out the form online, print the page they tell you to print, and send in the original voucher/sticker, plus the original receipt. Mail all those to the given address on the form, and they'll send you Prototype (in about eight weeks).

Since I ordered it online I hope mine has the sticker. Also, for online purchases, is a printout ok? There's technically no original reciept. I guess we are at activision's mercy. I'm just hoping my KMart sale version has that sticker.

The offer expires at the end of August so I'm assuming Activision planned on having enough copies of Prototype in hand.

If you're lucky, Kmart might have the stickered edition still in stock while Singularity is on sale this week for $34.99.

ah, must have just been blind. didn't see any of that on the site, only in the e-mail. oh well!

I received my copy of Singularity last night AND it had the sticker. I was worried about not getting the sticker since I ordered online.

    Question:

If we ordered online will a receipt printout be a suitable substitute for the “original receipt” that is required when we mail in the proof of purchase.

I went to the url on the sticker and went through the online application and printed out the confirmation form, I'm just hoping my printed out receipt doesn't negate my submission.

I think a printout of your electronic receipt from an e-tailer is not going to be an issue.

My rebate arrived at Activision a little while ago, so I hope they send the copy of [Prototype] soon. I love free games. And I'm actually kinda excited to play it.

  • stormofdantess

Okay, my copy of [Prototype] came in the mail in a nice paper sleeve(lol) just fine. I ordered it through Amazon and got the sticker, sent it with my order receipt, came a week or so later. So no worries to those who ordered it online. Also, the game it self is pretty fun, but I'm glad I got it free. And I mean that in the best way possible. A good promotion, I'm pretty satisfied.

I got my copy of Prototype in the mail today. VERY fast turnaround. Just as a reminder to everyone. You don't get a green retail box or a manual with this offer – just the game disc in a cardboard sleeve.

    Bravo on the turnaround!
