Blur for $10?!

by Dan on June 20, 2010

Several folks are reporting that they did indeed buy Blur for $10 at Best Buy. Here’s how it breaks down:

  1. Best Buy has the game on sale this week for $40 for both Xbox 360 and PS3 — already a sweet deal.
  2. Then there’s a $20 manufacturer’s coupon that I mentioned earlier this week, which makes it $20.
  3. And if you’re a member of Best Buy’s Reward Zone, there’s another $10 coupon online.

So if you can stack all of those deals, Blur on PS3 or 360 is just $10.Full details are at CheapAssGamer.com. (Please read the thread and treat them with respect.)

Now, please be advised — that deal might not work for you. Some stores might not honor all three discounts; usually any discounts are off the manufacturer’s price and they don’t stack. But several people are reporting that a triple-stack worked for them. As the saying goes, YMMV — “your mileage may vary.” It may be different by store, but it’s certainly worth a shot, right? It doesn’t hurt to ask.

If you get there and the manager doesn’t want to honor the deal, don’t be a jerk about it. It’s their store, it’s their rules. But at the very least, they should honor the manufacturer’s coupon or the $40 price. If you can get both or more, good for you.

Thanks to PanzerDSS for the heads-up — this deal worked for him, anyway.

UPDATE: Looks like the word has gone out that this shouldn’t happen, and stores are no longer honoring this deal when people ask about it. If you were lucky and snagged one on the cheap, congrats. Otherwise, I’ll point out that $40 is still a good deal. Hell, I think $60 is a fair deal, but that’s me.

    That's a hell of a deal!

Shhh. If there's enough buzz, Best Buy corporate will rear it's ugly head and make an official decision. And you know they never side with the consumer. (Crossing my fingers, trying to get that deal today myself.)

I got the $20 coupon to work just fine. I didn't want to push it with the extra $10 coupon and ot get either. $20 for Blur is a great deal.

I got it for $20 yesterday. I didn't know about the $10 Reward Zone coupon. I figure that $20 is still a smokin' deal for a brand new game. The weird thing was that the shelf price for Blur showed $59.99, no mention of a sale that I could find.

Here in Canada, none of the 3 stores I tried accepted the cupom (FutureShop, BestBuy and EBGames)… I ended up buying it anyway using a Bestbuy $20 gift card I had: $39 was still a great price for the game

I tried to take advantage of this deal and it lead to one of the worst shopping experiences of my life. First, I went by Best Buy and they refused to accept either coupon. Not just one or the other, but either coupon on their own.

So, I saw your tweet about Kmart also having Blur for $40 and I thought I would try to see if they would take the Activision coupon. I headed over there and had to wait about 20 minutes while the sales lady tried to get ahold of the manager. Eventually he came over and told me that he could not accept the coupon unless he could validate it, which could take a week. I asked why it would take so long and whether I could still get the same price when it was validated and he said no.

When I asked why they had to validate the coupon, he told me because it looked like I could have made the coupon myself or found a photoshopped one online. I insisted that it was an official Activision coupon from their own website, but he said that many thiefs try to pass phony coupons. I asked if he was accusing me of being a thief, and he said “I have no way of knowing.” Obviously, I found this extremely offensive.

Honestly, this is the most outraged I have ever been with my treatment at a retail store. I would understand him saying, “I'm sorry, but we cannot accept a coupon on an already discounted item.” I would have understood and probably bought the game anyways, but to be accused of being a thief is insulting. This was the first time I had even walked into a Kmart in years, but it was also the last time.

I just thought I'd share my experience with you. Hopefully you have a better one. But, I would urge you all to reconsider shopping at Kmart. If you have a coupon, you may be called a thief too.

This worked like a charm. The guy directly in front of me in line was using the same two coupons on the game, and the cashier had to call the manager because he didn't know how to process the $20 coupon. The manager set him straight, and my transaction went smooth as silk. Can't beat $10 for a great game.

I got denied by Bet Buy for both the Activision and Best Buy Gamer Zone coupons, so I went to a nearby Meijer's store and asked that they match the best Buy ad price, which they did. Then I whipped out the Activision coupon and they took that as well. So Blur for $20 is better than nothing.
