Activision’s E3 2010 Event: The Video

by Dan on June 16, 2010

Activision sent me some footage of Monday’s big E3 event, and Kat mixed it with the stuff she shot behind the scenes with me that afternoon. Kat rocks.

I know a lot of people were very curious to see it for themselves and were disappointed that it wasn’t streamed like the press conferences were, but…well, a press conference is a lot easier to stream, and as you’re about to see, this was anything but a press conference!

Too bad you couldn't show more.

When I saw on Twitter how MJK was up there doing Bohemian Rhapsody, I wanted to cry :( I should've been at E3 this year but hotel was just too expensive. Hopefully you got that on video because I would love to see that. Pretty please? :D

As you might suspect, the artists had approval over their performances, and Maynard's performance was not on the footage we were given to use.

Was probably a hell of a concert and it's Activision's money to spend any way they want but it seems like this did very little to promote Activision's slate of upcoming games. They could've at least branded this as Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock or DJ Hero 2 party. Seems like they could've gotten more bang for their buck if they simply had Dan, Kat, and Hugh at a press conference showing some games.

Unless this is Activision version of the company picnic and all the L.A. office employees were invited to show and drink for free.

This was NOT a press conference….This was a party!

Best “Oh Hai there” ever. The head turn really sells it.

It was announced that the event would be to spotlight the top-tier talent working with Activision on games in the coming year. What you're not seeing is the gameplay footage on the video wall that gave many of those performances their context. Imagine that — something from Activision, taken out of context! :)

Also, all the SoCal employees of both Activision Blizzard were invited.

So, this was at the Staples Center? Their staff musta had one hell of a week with this plus the NBA Finals.

He's always been a pretty secretive guy, so it doesn't surprise me. I did find footage of it on YouTube though. Both him and Billy Howerdel did a fantastic job. So jealous :)

Yeah, Activision was Monday, the Finals were Tuesday and Thursday. I hope they just shut the place down next week and let everybody sleep.

Saw Tool in concert a few years ago – strange guy. He played the entire set with his back facing the crowd – and giant fabric was behind the band showcasing really cool artwork.
